Hosei University Mount Everest Expedition English Report Nr.1

All members of the Hosei University Mount Everest expedition 2000 (17members) arrived savely

in Kathmandu on the 25th of March. After general preparations and a meeting with the representative

head Sherpa (Pasang Kidar),the team left Kathmandu for Syabrubensi, in the early morning of the 26th

of March. The teams treking schedulefor altitude adjustment started on the 27th of March after

staying overnight in Shabrubensi. After four days of treking the Hosei team reached Kyangjin Ghompa

at an altitude of 3850 meters. The Langtang trek starts in Syabrubensi (1430m) and moves through

the following villages: - Bamboo (1970) - Ghoda Tabela (3020-3048) - Langtang Village (3200)

- Kyangjin Ghompa (3850). Overall altitude variation: 1430m-3850m. After arriving

in Kyangjin Ghompa some team members went up to Karka (4190m) and the Langtang Basecamp

for reconnaissance.

All members are generally fine, but headaches, direaha, loss of appetite and slight fever are common.

The 31st of March is the first rest day of the Hosei team after five days of trekking. Various members

chose to rest or climb adjacent peaks for additional altitude adjustment. Various nameless peaks

of altitudes ranging from 4300m to Tsergo Ri`s 5033m are perfect alttitude adjustment

for Everest`s basecamp at 5300meters. In the morning of the 31st of March, a memorial service

for three climbers who perished in an avalanche in 1989 while attempting to climb

Langtang Lirung (7225m) was held. The Hosei team will continue its altitude adjustment

by attempting to climb Tsergo Ri (5033m) in the next few days.
